The LAPT music examination pathway begins at Initials and progresses through Grades 1 to 8. It welcomes those taking their first steps in music as well as those developing greater skill and artistry. Each level marks an achievement in its own right and provides a clear goal for continued growth.

For accomplished performers, LAPT also offers a High Performing Concert Certificate. This provides an opportunity to demonstrate advanced musicianship and the ability to engage an audience through a polished concert performance.

LAPT offers examinations in six major musical disciplines:

Piano Examinations

Our Piano Examinations are designed to develop comprehensive pianistic skills, combining technical accuracy with musical interpretation and expressive performance.

Students are assessed on their ability to demonstrate appropriate finger techniques, scales, arpeggios, rhythm, sight-reading, musical expression and performance proficiency according to their examination grade.

As candidates progress through the grades, greater emphasis is placed on musical interpretation, stylistic awareness, technical control and advanced repertoire.

Electronic Keyboard Examinations

The Electronic Keyboard Examinations provide students with opportunities to develop both traditional keyboard skills and modern electronic performance techniques.

Candidates are encouraged to demonstrate proficiency in melody playing, chord progressions, rhythmic accompaniment, coordination between both hands, appropriate use of keyboard functions and musical interpretation.

Violin Examinations

LAPT Music Examinations are offered from Initial Grade through Grade 8.
