| Who can apply | Students in the third or higher year of a bachelor's degree, or those who have completed a government-approved degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts or Humanities. Exact year and degree rules are given in the current brochure. |

| Stages | Computer-based test in one chosen paper (or an allowed two-paper combination): General Aptitude plus the subject paper, with MCQ, MSQ and numerical-answer questions. |
| What it leads to | Master's and direct doctoral programmes in Engineering, Technology and Architecture, and doctoral programmes in science and humanities, at MoE-supported institutions. Some PSUs also use GATE scores for recruitment. |
